HP has improved its already excellent high-end laptop – the 13-inch Specter x360. The company tried to make important changes in almost all aspects of the device, and as a result, in the face of Specter x360 13 (2019), we got a rather interesting product.
The manufacturer notes that he managed to make the most compact transformer notebook among devices with a ratio of screen area to total cover area of 90%. It is also supposedly the most autonomous of 13-inch 4-core transformers and the most compact laptop equipped with a Windows Hello webcam with an infrared sensor for improved face recognition. The device is able to work autonomously up to 22 hours (it is also worth noting that you can recharge the battery up to 50% in just 10 minutes), largely thanks to the new LCD panel with a consumption of 1 W.
The design of the device is designed to create the impression of jewelry – for example, the edges of the case resemble a faceted gem. By the way, the power button is located on the left beveled edge, and the USB-C port is on the right, which not only looks stylish, but also improves functionality. Finishing is also used not quite ordinary: black with copper accents; pale blue with brass accents; as well as a silver version.
HP paid a lot of attention to the screen. As already mentioned, now it occupies 90% of the cover area (versus 78% for the 2018 model) due to narrowed frames. The indentation on the top was reduced from 17.35 mm to 5.85 mm (and the manufacturer managed to fit the advanced Windows Hello camera there), and below – from 25.82 mm to 11.09 mm. This, among other things, allowed to reduce the size of the device by 13%, so that the 13-inch screen now fits essentially in the case of a thin 12-inch laptop.
Thanks to the use of the new 10th generation Intel Core 4-core processors with Iris Plus graphics, notebook performance in tasks such as photo editing, 3D or video editing has increased by up to 2 times compared to Specter x360 13 (2018).
HP also worked on an active and passive cooling system, achieving a significant increase in heat sink efficiency while reducing noise. Using a special application for power management, the user is free to choose three modes: quiet, comfortable or as productive as possible.
It is worth saying that while the basic laptop models are equipped with a 13.3-inch Full HD LCD, the flagship Specter x360 13 (2019) versions are equipped with an OLED HDR display with a resolution of 4K, 100,000: 1 contrast ratio, increased readability in sunlight, DCI-P3 enhanced color gamut with factory calibration and reduced emission in harmful blue spectrum. HP also promises an improved anti-reflection coating with enhanced fingerprint resistance.
Improved and wireless communications. Thanks to the Wi-Fi 6 module, the maximum transmission speed over a wireless network tripled; and the 4G LTE gigabit transmitter thanks to the 4 × 4 antennas (in the respective models) provides a speed of 122% higher and better compatibility with various 5G network operators.
Attention has been paid to security: in particular, a physical switch has been added to the side face, which turns off the power supply to the webcam (you won’t have to glue it); on the keyboard there is a microphone mute button and a corresponding indicator; the screen is supplemented by a special filter that, when activated, delimits viewing angles so that it is much more difficult to see what is displayed on the side. The manufacturer also promises high-quality encryption when working via Wi-Fi and several other tools to increase security.
The most interesting is of course the price. The basic model with a 13.3-inch FHD LCD screen, 8 GB of RAM, a 256-GB SSD drive, and a 4-core Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor will cost US customers 1099. The flagship version with a 13.3-inch OLED screen 4K HDR, 16 GB of RAM, a 512 GB SSD drive (in conjunction with a 32 GB Intel Optane), a 4-core Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor costs already 1499. Also in October, a more advanced version will appear in the American network Best Buy, whose value is not called. All versions come with a digital pen.
