All models of the 15th line received the screen geometry traditional for Meizu in a 16: 9 ratio. This aspect ratio has been familiar to the consumer for many years, and only the last one and a half to two years flagships with an elongated screen and an aspect ratio of 18/19: 9 began to appear more and more. And in the race for Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, the latest generation for 2018, Meizu refused to take part, installing the 2017 Exizos 8895 processor in its top-end new 2018 Meizu 15 Plus processor, and Qualkomm Snapdragon 660 in the “younger” models.
For better or worse, the question is controversial. But the fact that at least one of the companies goes its own way, without copying and not imitating the market leaders, being itself among the leaders, causes respect and curiosity: what does Meizu offer instead of new-fangled stereotypes and form factor?

Meizu 15 Plus Design Overview
As I already mentioned, the Meizu 15 Plus form factor does not fit into the trend of modern flagships. However, this does not put it below the flagship step, but gives a certain zest, which is so lacking in the realities of 2018 on the mobile market among all manufacturers. This design reminds me of the first released smartphone with a large screen, about which they said that its user’s face on one side will remain without a tan. Samsung Galaxy Note. And come on, it is the trend with increasing display size that has become relevant in subsequent years. And over time, and transformed into a geometry of 18: 9 or even 19: 9. But not at Meizu.
The large 6-inch display module looks traditional and organic. A certain "shovel" gives the Meizu 15 Plus smartphone the features of seriousness and self-confidence. The frames at the top and bottom are so thin that the circular fingerprint scanner located in the center of the bottom strip has a diameter of only 6 mm. And at the same time it works as accurately and accurately as large scanners. There is nothing else at the bottom of the screen. Only the round fingerprint scanner. The upper part of the display module is also slightly different from the usual image of the modern flagship of 2018.
The camera is located exactly in the center of the upper strip of the display, where the slot of the earpiece is usually located. And here we come to the first "chip". Meizu 15 Plus. The auditory speaker itself is located there, in a familiar place. Only the location of the gap for its full sounding is somewhat unusual. The gap of the auditory speaker is located at the border of the display module and the smartphone case. At the same time, its position almost directs the sound at an angle upward. It will be necessary to get used to this arrangement and “catch” the position of the smartphone at the ear in order to achieve the most comfortable sound and audibility of the interlocutor. All the sensors put on the flagship are located in the upper strip of the display. Proximity sensor, lighting. Only the event indicator partially hid under the ledge of the display, above the gap of the auditory speaker, it gradually gains and loses brightness in the presence of events. It looks just amazingly beautiful.
Smartphone control buttons are spaced on different sides of the case. And that’s great. The tendency to place all control elements on one side of the case, it seems to me, is extremely impractical. Of course, we are all accustomed to this arrangement of buttons, but no matter how long to use this innovation, it is still uncomfortable. On the right side of the case is the on / off button of the smartphone and the SIM card tray. There are two of them in Meizu 15 Plus, both NanoSIM formats. Hybrid slot is not provided. That is, it is not possible to expand the built-in memory.
On the left side of the case are two separate volume buttons. And this, too, seems to me good. The buttons are divided, so there will be no accidental touch when it is difficult to determine in which part of the button the finger is located.
On the left side of the device on its upper edge is the hole of an additional microphone, traditionally already used for noise reduction and recording sound in videos in stereo format.
The lower edge of the case looks familiar to Meizu. The central USB Type-C connector is version 2.0, on the sides of it are two small casing mounting screws. There is a multimedia speaker grill on the right side of the bottom edge, and a minijack 3.5 mm audio jack hole in the left side. The back of the smartphone would have looked more traditional in terms of flagship design, but Meizu managed to make a significant difference here. The camera module also looks traditional and is also located in the usual place. A vertically located dual module protrudes noticeably above the plane of the hull (a disease of almost all flagships). This is due to the presence of focal length in one of the lenses. To protect the module from gradual clouding with micro-scratches, it is covered with sapphire crystal. The "chip" is below the camera. There is usually a fingerprint scanner for other models. This is a flash module that consists of 6 LEDs arranged in a circle. It is covered with a pearl frosted glass and has a funnel shape, with a black plane with a diameter of several mm in the center of the circle.

In general, the design of the Meizu 15 Plus smartphone is gorgeous. The old-school form factor gives solidity and externally visible high cost. At the same time, a modern approach to design elements shows that this model was not assembled from the remains of old stocks, but was deliberately designed in the style of the “old school”.
Display Meizu 15 Plus
As I mentioned above, a diagonal 5.95-inch display has 16: 9 geometry that is not traditional today. And it seems to me that this is the right approach. The display resolution is 2560 × 1440 pixels with a density of 493 ppi. The display matrix is made using Super AMOLED technology. The brightness of the display is 430 cd / sq. m. Viewing angles are good (in fairness it should be clarified that they are not the best for today). In bright sunlight, the screen remains readable and you can see on the display exactly the scene that you are going to photograph.
Display tests show that the sRGB triangle is slightly exceeded in all values. Gray color is unnatural, ideal color gamut and a slight excess of the brightness indicator. The blue color of the gamut is somewhat predominant, the color temperature is within normal limits. These indicators can be seen on the test graphs.
As a result, we have a qualitatively calibrated display with typical indicators for Super Amoled matrices. The colors are bright and saturated. In the display settings there is a choice of 4 modes.
Performance Meizu 15 Plus
The heart of the Meizu 15 Plus smartphone was the processor from colleagues in the workshop. Samsung. This is the 9th generation Exinos 8895. Good or bad. Rather bad. However, it seems that in line for the 845th Snapdragon Meizu did not stand up for a reason. At the moment, it is known for sure that the 845 does not support the dual front camera module for Google Android 9 Pie. And that is why manufacturers of some flagships do not announce an upgrade to 9-ki until Qualcomm completes full support. Samsung Exinos 8895 is an 8-core processor, manufactured using 10 nm process technology.
The kernels are divided into two groups. Each cluster has 4 cores. In one, 4 modified M2 Mongoose cores with a clock frequency of 2.5 GHz, in the other 4 cores Cortex-A53 with a clock frequency of 1.7 GHz. The graphics accelerator in this stone is the ARM Mali-G71 MP20 with a frequency of 550 GHz. The RAM used in the device is dual-channel 6 GB LPDDR4x. RAM speed 5300 Mb / s. 64/128 GB of internal memory, there is no possibility to expand the memory using a microCD card.
All this hardware is perfectly optimized and works flawlessly, quickly and clearly. There can be no talk about throttling or freezing. In AnTuTu tests and synthetic Meizu 15 Plus showed the following results:
The performance of the AnTuTu Benchmark in 181795 parrots, perhaps not the highest to date, but not bad at all. The Meizu 15 Plus smartphone confidently takes its place in the top ten in 2018. In games, even gluttonous and resource-intensive, it works adequately at maximum settings. Without brakes and glitches (ShadowGun Legends, for example, 60 fps).
Meizu 15 Plus Software
Out of the box, Meizu 15 Plus runs on Google Android 7.0 with the Flyme 7 proprietary shell. The shell was presented at the presentation along with the device on April 22, 2018.
Of the shell updates, some innovations are worth noting. There was a night mode, working not only in the smartphone interface, but also in third-party applications. A multi-window mode has been implemented (it cannot be said that it fully works, but it is), the One Mind 2.0 function is integrated (artificial intelligence, which includes real-time “improvers” for video communication and other “tricks”). General optimization was performed to increase productivity. There is confidence that in the near future Meizu 15 Plus will be updated to 8-ki, and possibly to the 9th Android.
Meizu 15 Plus camera review
In the 15th line Meizu showed what it means to work with cameras. It turned out worthily and there is an attempt to oust camera manufacturers from the pedestal of “monsters”. In the main camera, we have a dual module with a leading and secondary lenses. The leading role is played by a 20-megapixel 6-lens Sony IMX350 lens with a focal length of 25 mm, aperture f / 1.8 and a matrix size of 1 / 2.78 inches. The pixel size is 1 μm. The secondary lens of the main camera is a 12-megapixel Sony IMX 380c with a focal length of 38 mm (cinematic), with an aperture of f / 2.6 and a matrix size of 1 / 2.3 inches. The pixel size is 1.55 microns.
Image quality is close to ideal. The smartphone has accurate color reproduction, the correct white balance, high definition and fast focus. Pictures are obtained with high detail and with no noise and artifacts. With insufficient lighting, at night, the pictures are also excellent. The colors are saturated and vibrant, white balance is perfect. Loss of detail is possible only at night in the case of very complex lighting (the light source is in front of the camera).
Meizu 15 Plus can shoot video in 4K resolution with a frequency of 30 fps (using the HEVC codec), in FullHD resolution the frequency is also 30 fps, but already with optical stabilization. The video quality is frankly good, but the sound is so-so. The front camera shoots in a resolution of 20 megapixels, has a 5-lens lens and an aperture of f / 2.0.
