How To Configure Video Surveillance Via Asus Router

Setting up remote access on the router and DVR

The connection principle is very simple for those who are faced with configuring routers (routers), or at least have some idea what a local area network is. For those who are faced with this for the first time, we will try to explain in the most detail, starting from the very beginning.

In a nutshell, you need to configure first DVR to a local static ip-address, and then redirect from local ip-addresses to one dedicated (direct) ip-address and select a port for each local ip-address in the settings router. If there is no possibility to connect a dedicated IP address, then under certain conditions you can use the DDNS service, replacing the need to purchase a "dedicated IP address".

The first one. Configure the DVR.

We go into the “menu” of the DVR, find the “Network” section, change the receipt of the IP address automatically (DHCP) to a static ip address (STATIC). Drive in manually: – registrar ip address – router gateway dns server (we have it detected automatically, but if you have such a column, you must specify it according to your router)

We press the confirmation of the settings, we reboot the registrar so that the settings take effect precisely.

We drove the GATEWAY according to the settings of the router to which the DVR will connect. Depending on the brand and model of the router, the subnet may vary. If you do not know the settings router, then we go to it and look for similar sections in order to configure it as correctly as possible router. The settings on the router should be the same as on the registrar, differing from each other only ip

The second one. Setting up the router.

To enter the router, look at it / box / instruction and look for the local default IP address. Often they are: / / /, etc., passwords and logins are used with the names: root / admin / default / brands of routers and others.

In our case, the router has by default the local ip, and the DVR has and the port in both cases will use port 80 when using a web browser (

In the picture below, the place where they fit is highlighted in red IP addresses

The local addresses for one router can be from 1 to 255, but the external ip-address or domain name will be one, so in order to go under the same ip-address or domain, you need to specify each port with its own port. The port is specified from 0 to 65550 and in our case for the router we will use 9001 ports, and for the web-based interface of the DVR 9011. The remaining ports, for example, for viewing from a mobile device or video stream, will also be redirected from the IP-address of the DVR under the same port, for example, internal ip: the port receives{7777 redirects to{7777.

As a rule, the routers indicate the web port in the sections "Security", "Security", "Instrumentation", "Tools", "System Settings", "System Settings" and others. Category "Remote Management", "Remote Management".

You must enable remote router control.

Ports are forwarded in sections such as Forwarding, Forwarding, Advanced. Category “Virtual servers”, “Virtual servers”.

In the virtual servers category, specify port forwarding.

The port of the direct ip address, the port of the local ip address, the ip address itself are indicated.

Dedicated ip-the address is one, so only the external port, local ip-address and internal port.

In order for the router to issue the same local ip-address to the registrar, it is necessary to reserve it. If this is not done, then when the registrar is turned off, the prescribed local address will be taken by other equipment receiving the settings automatically, and the registrar will not connect at all if the router does not have redirection to this case. You can reserve ip addresses by MAC address in the “DHCP Management” section of the “Address Reservation” / “Address Reservation” category. If there is no such function, then indicate on the router ip that does not distribute via DHCP or specify one of the latter (for example: if the router issues, then specify on the registrar).

Reserve local IP addresses of equipment, so that the router does not automatically give them to other equipment.

When using the DDNS service, the IP address of the router can change, but it must be external. That is, if your Internet provider issues IP addresses in the zone at;; then this service will not work even if it is redirected to their equipment and issued a direct (dedicated) IP!

Service DDNS works exclusively with external ip addresses. Connection DDNS service is optional!

Also, be careful when buying a direct ip address service from mobile operators, for example, a megaphone or pay, a direct ip address is issued only to a legal entity, and the allocated addresses for individuals will change (as they say Slightly =). And with an insignificant change in the IP address, getting to the router or the DVR does not work out if you do not use DDNS services, which also cannot be done in some cases!

We reboot the equipment, wait a few minutes, and try to go into the browser on the DVR at the ip address from a computer connected to a single network with the registrar, namely, to the custom port. If you access via the Internet (in all cases except the first), then indicate the dedicated IP and port –

If you have a DDNS service connected, you can use a domain name instead of an internal or local IP address. In our example, we see that this is:

If a white sheet is loaded, it means that the plug-in is not installed or your browser does not support the DVR software. Almost all DVRs open through web browser Internet Explorer (IE).

User must have access to web-browsing, so if you can’t log in, check the registrar’s menu in the "user management" section or create a new one with full rights.
