How To Find Out The Address Of The Router On The Network.

Blog about modems, routers and gpon ont terminals.

A WiFi router is an independent network device – a kind of mini-server, the main task of which is to maintain an Internet connection with the provider and distribute it to a local network via a LAN port or WiFi. In our apartments and houses with you, the WiFi router is also the center of the local network, combining all connected devices into it. In 90% of cases, the router is configured once upon connection and ideally requires no more maintenance. Many ordinary users do not go into the settings for years and therefore do not even remember the address of the router on the local network. When there is a need to fix something in the device settings, remembering the address of the router is a problem. And despite the fact that this task is not worth a damn – for some it truly becomes unsolvable. In fact, it is not at all difficult to find out the address of the router, and today I will tell you how to do it.

The first way to find out the address of the router on the network.

The easiest way to find out the address of the router on the network is to turn it over and look at the sticker. It usually shows the serial number, MAC address and IP address of the router. Here is an example of such a sticker on the D-Link ADSL router:

And here is the sticker with the TP-Link router address:

Please note that on the sticker you can also find out the MAC address of the router. As a rule, it is signed – MAC-address or MAC ID.
Now we launch a web browser (best of all Internet Explorer or Chrome) and try to go into the settings of the router. The problem may be if the subnet of the local network of the router was changed during the initial setup. How to find out the address of the router in this case – see below.

The second way to find out the address of the router on the network.

Another option to find out the address of the router on the local network is to look at the address of the gateway of the computer’s network connection. To do this, go to Windows Network Connections. In order not to wander for a long time through the wilds of the “Control Panel”, press the WinR key combination and write in the open menu ncpa.cpl or control netconnections :

Click OK. A network connection window will open. We select the one through which we are connected to the router and click on it with the right mouse button. In the context menu, select the Status item:

In the connection status window, click the Details button. In the opened window of information about the network connection, look at the “IPv4 Gateway address” – this is the address of the router on the local network.
Information about the network connection in Windows 7 and Windows 8, including the address of the router, can also be viewed on the command line. To do this, press the WINR key combination, in the Run window type cmd command and click OK. A Windows command prompt window opens. In it you need to type the ipconfig / all command. The result will be something like this:

In the line “Main gateway” the IP-address of the router will be registered, since it is a gateway in the network.
