How to Make a Computer Faster than Windows 7

One of the most resource-intensive features of Windows 7 is file indexing, which creates a dictionary for your files, allowing you to perform a faster search. The problem is that this dictionary significantly reduces the speed of reading and writing to the hard drive, and therefore slows down the use of applications during indexing. That’s why Microsoft has enabled the ability to disable this feature.

To disable this feature, do the following: “Start.> Control Panel.> System and safety.> Administration.> Computer management.> Services. " In this window, scroll down to “Windows Search”. Right-click on an item and select "Properties". In the window, select "Disable" in the "Startup Type" section:

Click the "OK" button after completion.

If your computer becomes “awkward" while playing a movie or has difficulty showing graphics when you minimize or open a window, it’s probably time to sacrifice the beautiful effects that Windows 7 Aero provides you with and just live with simple soft colors. The interface will work the same as in Windows 7 Starter. Removing Aero will give your computer a little more breathing space, especially if the display adapter uses some physical memory on the PC to complete the tasks.

You can remove Aero by right-clicking on your desktop, clicking on "Personalization" and choosing a classic theme:

Another good way to make Windows 7 faster. MSConfig is an important tool that will help you improve download times. There are several services and applications to run that take up a ton of resources during Windows startup. This command is very slow for those with a PC. Disable those programs that are used extremely rarely, or are not used at all.

To enter the system configuration, press the key combination Winr, Next, go to the Startup tab.

For many people, Windows works great without any visual effects. Visual effects are the things that make your computer freeze when you minimize, enlarge, open and close the window. Windows 7 introduces a series of new visual effects that can also cause your computer to freeze when you hover over an open window icon. If you do not want these things to use resources on your computer, you can easily disable them.

All you have to do is click “Start.> Control Panel.> System and safety.> System.> Additional system parameters.> Performance ". Now just undo everything that you think doesn’t matter, and click OK after you’re done.

Disabling some of these elements will continue to support most of the features in Windows.

Of all the features of Windows 7, ReadyBoost seems to be the one that most people don’t pay attention to. The problem is that this is also one of the most important features that allows you to significantly increase your system memory using a USB drive. If you have a ReadyBoost compatible USB drive, you can configure your operating system to use RAM as a module, which will significantly increase the amount of physical memory available on the disk.

To configure ReadyBoost on your USB drive, right-click on the USB flash drive and select “Properties”. After that, click on the ReadyBoost tab. If there is no such tab, then your flash drive is not compatible with this function. On the tab, select "Use this device." The slider below the area you select allows you to fine-tune how much memory you would like to allocate for ReadyBoost.

Depending on the speed of your USB port, you can significantly increase the speed with which Windows interacts, due to a sudden surge in the amount of available memory. You can run more programs at the same time. It also frees up the virtual memory of the hard disk, since you do not need to store so much data.

There is another way to get rid of things that you don’t necessarily need on Windows: by disabling Windows features. Just go to the control panel, then go to “Programs.> Programs and components. " Click Turn Windows Features On or Off

Follow the instructions at the top of the new window and cancel the functions that you do not need. After you click “OK”, your problems just evaporate “poof!”.

There are many ways to improve computer performance. However, it is important to know that certain methods increase system performance by sacrificing usability, visual effects, beautiful design, and other properties of the operating system.
If you speed up the work using the method of disabling functions, then you need to think about whether a modern OS is needed?

Remember, that, lowering the visual appearance and effects typical of Windows 7, its main essence is lost. the harmony of human-computer interactions.

It is important to understand that for the full-fledged work of the "seven" you need a powerful productive computer. Otherwise, it makes sense to use an earlier generation of Windows.
Based on such conditions, in Windows 7 it is possible to change some default settings, thereby improving system performance, minimizing the impact on visual design.

To change the menu settings in Windows 7, you must do the following:

Move the mouse over the Start menu, right-click and call the “Properties” of the component

Next, the following window will appear.

How to Make a Computer Faster than Windows 7

Here you need to click on the "Configure" button

Next, a list of start menu options opens.

All these settings have a significant impact on the design and speed of the menu output. It is important to understand that the more elements are selected in the list, the more time it takes to draw them and, therefore, to display the menu as a whole.

To speed up the work, make the following changes: analyze the items in the list and disable items that are not used often. For example, music, videos, games and more. It is also recommended that you turn off the color highlighting of recently installed programs.

You can speed up Windows by decreasing the shutdown time of “hung” programs. It is not uncommon that a certain program freezes and needs to be closed, but Windows does not allow this, waiting for its response. Of course, such an expectation significantly reduces the system performance.

In the operating system settings, the default value is 12 seconds. During this time, the system waits for the response of the program and only then crashes the hung application. In practice, this lasts quite a while. To speed up the work, it is desirable to reduce this time, for this:

To do this, by pressing the Windows R key combination, open the Run window and enter the Regedit command in it.

This is necessary in order to run the "Registry Editor". Click OK and see the following:

Next, in one of two ways, open the search: either as shown in the screenshot, or by pressing Ctrl F.

Our search box will open. Enter the value Wait To Kill Service Timeout in it and click "Find Next."

The system scans the registry.

After the desired entry is found, the following will appear.

Right-click on the item Wait To Kill Service Timeout and click "Change."

A window for changing the parameter will open.

The default value is 12 seconds, which is 12000 milliseconds.

Enter a value of 2000-4000 milliseconds, that is, 2-4 seconds and by clicking “OK” save the changes.

After these changes, the time required for the abnormal termination of hung processes is reduced.

Below are simple ways to make your computer faster, after you notice that over time the computer began to "slow down", take a long time to load. As a rule, the reasons are not always clear, but the following steps will help novice users to take the first necessary steps themselves to restore computer performance
So what to do on your own to make the computer run faster?
System performance drops sharply when there is not enough space on the hard drive, therefore:

  1. We go in "My computer", press the right button on the "drive C", select "Properties" in the drop-down menu, see the free space on the disk. If there is less free space than RAM in the computer, you need to clear the space on drive C.
    • Immediately on the tab, click the "Disk Cleanup" button
    • Delete unnecessary programs
    • We transfer non-important files from drive C to other drives of the system to unload drive C
    • In Windows XP, Clean C: \ Documents and Settings \ "USERNAME" \ Local Settings \ Temp \ (delete everything that is deleted in this folder)

After freeing up space on drive C, you need to check it for errors:

    1. We go in "My computer", click the right mouse button on drive C, select "Properties" in the drop-down menu, select the "Service" tab, click the "Run Test" button

After checking drive C, you can defragment it:

    1. We go in "My computer", click the right mouse button on drive C, select "Properties" in the drop-down menu, select the "Service" tab, click the "Run Defragmentation" button

If for you a computer is more a tool for work than a fashion accessory, we recommend that you turn off the decorations of the system:

    1. press the right mouse button on “My Computer” go to the properties, tab “Advanced”, in the speed block click “Parameters”, in the visual effects check the box “Ensure better performance”

In the process of using the computer, the user downloads and removes many programs that leave their mark on the computer, one of these places is the registry. Data about the program is entered into the registry each time a new program is installed and remains there even after deleting an unnecessary program. The increased size of the registry can adversely affect the speed of loading the computer and slow down the computer during operation. To solve this problem, you need to use the registry defragmenter program. For example, take the Ace Utilites program from Acelogix Software (you can download a working version for 30 days at http://www.acelogix.com). as part of the program there is a Registry Defragmenter & Compactor, which will help you fix and defragment registry errors.

The article does not claim to be a complete troubleshooting guide, but is a normal system administrator’s practice when dealing with such problems.

If the above simple steps did not allow you to achieve system acceleration, you may need a more detailed study of the system and computer components, which can be done at the Daas Service Center

Computers are famous for their slowdown in old age, but there are a few tricks and tricks to increase their speed. From small tricks in the settings to buying several new blocks of RAM memory, there are many ways for every budget and any skills.

Therefore, before you throw the computer in a landfill to buy a new one, try the methods proposed in this article, maybe your computer can find a new life.

    1. Run cleaning programs as often as possible.

CCleaner is an amazing application that helps you find and delete the cache, as well as temporary files in many applications.

    2. Remove unnecessary visual effects and animations.

Yes, some of the things that you remove make your operating system more beautiful, but don’t you need a computer that will work much faster? In Windows 7, try disabling the beautiful, but very resource-intensive Aero theme. Right-click on the desktop and select "Personalization", then select the "Window Color" tab, and then uncheck the "Enable transparency" box.

    3. Update and be sure to use antivirus software.

Viruses and malware can reduce the speed of any computer, so it’s best to prevent them from appearing at all. If you use a free trial version of antivirus software whose notifications annoy you like the virus itself, remove it and try to use the free antivirus software from Microsoft Security Essentials, which will not bomb you with ads. Schedule your daily fast system scan times and full weekly scans.

    4. Buy more RAM to speed up the multitasking system.

Random access memory, or random access memory, is a cheap and easy upgrade to your computer that will allow sluggish PCs to feel new strengths.
You can use this elegant Newegg “Memory Finder” utility to find out what your computer needs for memory. You can either install the new memory yourself, or entrust it to a friend who can carefully install it in the slot on your motherboard.

    5. Buy solid state drives (SSDs) to save boot time.

Updating your hard drive is an easy way to achieve much shorter boot times. There are two types of drives: traditional hard drives (HDD) and new solid state drives (SDD). While traditional hard drives are cheaper and have moving parts, SSDs are made on the principle of flash memory, which does not have moving parts. The latter are getting cheaper almost every day, and the presence of SSD disks in the computer means a faster start of the operating system and a shorter boot time.

    6. Reduce the number of applications that start when the computer starts.

Waiting near a computer while it is loading is always tiring, so limiting the number of programs and applications that start when the operating system starts will always help you here. To see a list of these programs, click the "Start" button and then "Run", in the "Open" line, type the command "msconfig". Then click on the "Startup" tab, where you will see a list. Here you can cancel the download at the start of any program that you do not need at startup.

Important. Do not remove the check marks in those places where you could not recognize by searching on Google and do not understand whether this program is necessary for the normal operation of the computer.

    7. Check what is currently running on your computer to find the source of inhibition of the process.

Your computer always works with several tasks at the same time, and it may be useful to make sure that they are all started by you, and not by viruses or some obscure program. In Windows, right-click on the "Taskbar" (under the clock), and then select in the "Task Manager" menu, on the "Processes" tab, here you can see all the tasks that your operating system is occupied with. If there is a process that takes up tons of RAM or consumes more processor power, try googling its purpose. If you cannot find the purpose of this process, it is entirely possible that some kind of malware is running on you.

    8. Perform a fresh reinstall of Windows if your computer is infected with viruses or malware.

You can, as a rule, get rid of viruses with the help of reputable antivirus programs, but sometimes it is easier and faster to clean your computer completely. Performing a fresh reinstallation of the Windows operating system will delete all previous software, settings, drivers, so make sure in advance that you have everything you need to restore the system. When you are ready to reinstall the system, insert the Windows installation disk or USB flash drive into the computer, and then turn off the computer. Then run it again and follow the on-screen instructions. If you don’t have a bootable flash drive, it doesn’t matter, here you can find a detailed article on how to create it for Windows 10 without using third-party programs.

    9. If your Internet browser is slow, try clearing its cache.

If your computer is used for surfing the Internet, then the speed problem may be in your browser, and not with the computer at all. The instructions are slightly different for each browser, but in any of them you need to go to the Settings menu and find the History Option to clear the browser cache.

    10. Update your computer’s search index.

This tip will help greatly speed up the process of finding data on your computer by reindexing the entire hard drive. This process can take a lot of time for large hard drives, but it is definitely worth it. On Windows, use the “Disk Defragmenter” application that comes with your computer. Set up weekly defragmentation scheduling.

Do not install multiple antiviruses. One antivirus. and that’s all, do not install additional “utilities for checking flash drives”, “anti trojans”, etc. over, the second antivirus. in some cases this leads to the fact that the only way to make the computer work normally is to reinstall Windows.

It would not hurt to have the image of a working version of the system always at hand.

How to make a computer faster? Optimization options

In order to make a computer faster, it is not necessary to buy new components for it. Although, if the computer is completely old, then upgrading the components or buying a new machine can be a good idea. But now we’re not talking about that.

Often users install many programs, but forget to remove them even if the programs are no longer needed. A list of all the programs installed on the computer can be found here:

    • Windows XP: StartControl PanelThe installing and deleting of programms.
    • Windows 7: StartControl PanelProgramsPrograms and Features.
    • Windows 8: StartAll applicationsControl PanelProgramsPrograms and components.
    • Windows 10: Start (right click) → Control PanelProgramsUninstall a program

Often programs try to start when Windows starts, even when you do not need them all the time. Click Win r and write in the opened line “msconfig”Without quotes. Click Enter and go to the tab Autoload. Uncheck those programs that you do not use constantly. In Windows 8, you will see a link to Task Manager, it will need to do the same thing.

This is an excellent tool for cleaning the system from debris. On the tab "Cleaning"Clean the hard drive, and on the tab"Registry»Clean the system registry.

    Step 4. Defragment

Defragment all partitions on your hard drive. To do this, use the Defraggler program. During defragmentation, it is advisable not to work on the computer, and this process can take several hours. It’s best to leave defragmentation overnight.

Step 5. Simplification of the interface

If this is not enough, you can try to include a simplified Windows layout scheme. In Windows 7, right-click on the desktop, select Personalization and select a scheme in which there is no transparency of windows and the taskbar. In Windows XP, you can go to the design of Windows 98 and the computer will start to work a little faster.

You can also find some advanced methods for optimizing the operating system in this article.

If you are faced with the task of speeding up the loading of Windows, and you need to do this without using third-party programs, then you definitely need to read this article. Since it contains simple, and most importantly effective ways to speed up the loading of the Windows 7 operating system, the effect of which you can feel without a stopwatch.

Starting work, any computer first of all starts the BIOS (from the English Basic Input / Output System. Basic Input / Output System), and therefore the acceleration of starting Windows needs to be started from it. In BIOS (e), we are interested in two things: the boot priority queue, and the Fast boot function.
The latter is able to significantly speed up system startup by canceling the search and checking the BIOS (ohms) of connected devices. However, this function has its drawbacks. turning it off, the user disables the use of devices connected via non-standard connectors (USB, S-Video, hosts for mobile devices). They will begin to work after the full start of Windows.

To speed up boot through BIOS setup:

    1. Enter BIOS. Pressing the F2 or Del button at startup, (Sometimes F1, F10).
    2. Open the Boot tab.
    3. Change the boot queue by setting the 1st (1st Boot Priority) value to Hard Disk.
    4. If your computer has several hard drives, choose one? on which the operating system is installed.
    5. Here we turn on the “Fast Boot” function (above).

Important! The figure shows the Download Queue for a Dell Inspiron laptop. On other devices, it may vary slightly. As a rule, the differences concern only the visual component, while the names of bookmarks and commands are almost always identical (standardized) for all devices.

It should also be noted, Fast boot sometimes works too well. As a result, users physically do not have time to press the right button in time to re-enter the BIOS. This problem is solved by pressing the BIOS opening button (a) before turning on the computer.

The next step to speed up loading is to connect all processor cores (if there are more than one) to start the operating system. For this:

    1. We press the “Start” button where in the search / execute column we enter “msconfig” without quotes. The Run window is also launched by pressing the two WinR keys.
    2. Further in the window that opens, go to the "Downloads" tab. We select the line "Windows OS loaded by default", we press "Additional parameters".
    3. A window will open where we put a checkmark in front of the "Number of processors." As a result, it will be possible to select the required number of cores (it is recommended to choose the maximum allowable number). Click OK.

The done manipulations will begin to work the next time the operating system is rebooted.

The next step will be to disable unnecessary programs and services that affect the start of the system.

    1. Open the "Start", go to the "Control Panel".
    2. Click on “Categories” (top right) and select “Small Icons”.
    3. Find the “Administration” icon.
    4. Open the "Services" item.

Here you need to disable unnecessary services, since they load the system, even if they are not used by the user. Especially when starting Windows. In detail about what you can turn off, and what’s better not to touch, you can read on the Internet, however, you can guess about some services yourself. For example, "Print Manager" you do not need if you do not have a printer.

The "Service" is turned off by right-clicking on it, where the "Properties" item is clicked. After that, a window will open, where in the column "Startup Type" select "Disabled".

Next, we configure which Windows programs should automatically start when the system starts. Since so many programs like to register in autorun, while the user not only does not use them, he does not even suspect that they work.

    1. Open the Start menu, drive into the search string "msconfig".

Or click “WinR” and thus run the command “msconfig”.

In the window that opens, select the "Startup" tab. All programs that the system starts at startup will be shown here. Disable unnecessary ones by unchecking the box next to their name. Click OK.

The changes will take effect the next time the operating system is started.

The last point to speed up the system startup is to organize the space occupied by files on the hard disk, in other words, defragment the hard disk. This procedure is reminiscent of arranging the arrangement of books in the library. What is required for a more convenient, quick search for books (in our case, files) and their use.

The Disk Defragmenter service in Windows 7 is launched by a separate command. defrag.exe. It must be entered in the search bar of the Start menu or in the Run window (WinR).

By running this command, you will open the Defragmentation window, where you should select the disk on which the operating system is installed and start defragmenting it.

The defragmentation process can take a lot of time, sometimes several hours.

Also in this window it is better to immediately enable the function of periodic defragmentation by clicking "Set Schedule".

And choosing the optimal launch options for you. After that, you can start defragmenting the hard drive.

Tip. It is not necessary to load the computer during defragmentation, it is best to leave it until the process is over.
