Samsung S10e Unlike S9

Samsung introduced its anniversary smartphone line Galaxy, or rather as many as 3 new models! In this article, we will talk about how they differ from each other and whether it is worth overpaying for a more expensive version of the flagship.

So, let’s start with the obvious difference:

Varies by country, but, on average, looks like this:

The premium version of the S10 Plus in a ceramic case is about 1,400.

Design

Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus are made in the style of the previous flagships from Samsung. with rounded side edges. The screen on the Galaxy S10e is completely flat (looks like the style of the “budget” iPhone XR):

On the one hand, older models look more futuristic and stylish, however, it’s more convenient to use the younger model. On the S10e there are no glare at the edges of the screen and there are no accidental clicks. You can read more about this problem in this article.

The side frame on all devices is made of aluminum (unfortunately, even in the premium version there is no steel). Galaxy S10e does not look and feel as impressive as other models.

Body colors

The budget model S10e was clearly created as a competitor to the iPhone XR with its colorful cases for every taste. It is available in the original. citrus color:

Three other colors. Nacre, Onyx and Aquamarine available on all models:

And the most expensive version of the Galaxy S10 Plus, instead of Gorilla Glass 5, received a ceramic case in two colors. black and white. Compare what it looks like nacre and white ceramics (also pay attention to the color of the aluminum frame):

In addition to the premium look, the ceramic case, unlike the glass one, gives one significant advantage. it can not be scratched with anything other than diamond or sapphire. The hardness of ceramics on the Mohs scale is 8 (for comparison, the hardness of steel is 4.5).

For an expensive device that you use daily, this is an important factor.

Screen

A new generation screen is installed on all models. Dynamic amoled, replacing Samsung’s legendary Super AMOLED matrices. In addition to reference color rendering and standard support HDR10 (the image will be more colorful, rich and realistic), the new screen received a certificate TÜV Rheinland and the current day is the safest for human health.

In Apple’s True Tone Technology Review, we already wrote about how much (and why) blue light hurts our eyesight (be sure to read this material even if you don’t use an iPhone). To combat this problem, Apple dynamically changes the color balance of the screen, as a result of which the image takes on a yellowish tint. In S10, we went further and applied a blue hardware filter:

Such screens are installed in all versions of the Galaxy S10. The difference is only in size, resolution and form. The aspect ratio of all is identical. 19: 9. The remaining characteristics of the displays are as follows:

Front camera

All 3 models use an identical 10MP camera module with Dual pixel autofocus (instant focus). And the older model, S10 Plus, is equipped with an additional 8 megapixel depth sensor for portraiture. For this reason, the cutout in the right corner of the screen is different (round for S10e / S10 versus oval for S10 Plus):

Thus, the only difference between the S10 Plus and S10e / S10 is the ability to shoot portraits on the front camera with beautiful blurring.

Main camera

Naturally, the differences also affected the rear camera. There are 3 photo modules installed on the S10 / S10 Plus:

  • Main with a resolution of 12 megapixels (Dual Pixel autofocus, optical stabilization, dual aperture F1.5 / F2.4, viewing angle of 77 degrees);
  • Zoom camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels (phase autofocus, optical stabilization system, aperture F2.4, viewing angle of 45 degrees);
  • Ultra-wide camera of 16 megapixels (without autofocus, aperture F2.2, viewing angle 123 degrees).

That is, the new camera uses the same cameras as on the Galaxy S9 / Note 9 with an additional ultra-wide-angle module.

As for the differences between the models, the Galaxy S10e lacks a zoom module for creating portraits with beautiful blurring of the background. As a result, on the younger model, only 2 cameras are installed (regular and ultra-wide).

To better understand what an ultra wide angle is, compare the two photos taken on the S10. The main camera:

Thus, regardless of the chosen model, you will have the opportunity to shoot very interesting and exciting photos.

Fingerprint

It’s amazing how much Samsung has changed in the last 10 years. Today, it reminds one of Apple from the time of Steve Jobs.

Samsung used to introduce “technology for technology” into its products, and it doesn’t matter if it’s inconvenient to use or if it works every other time. The main thing is to release faster than competitors!

Take the same fingerprint scanner. In laptops, handheld computers and smartphones, these inconvenient sensors were everywhere installed, according to which it was necessary to "drag" with your finger until they recognize the fingerprint. Apple considered such technology not worthy of their smartphone. And only when a really convenient and revolutionary fingerprint scanner appeared, instantly responding to a light touch. did we see the iPhone 5S!

Today, many Chinese manufacturers (take the same Xioami) produce smartphones with built-in screens optical fingerprint sensors. The only problem is that it is normally impossible to use them (we wrote about this in the Mi 8 Pro review). Samsung, like Apple at one time, has long ignored this technology, considering it not good enough for its flagships. And so, the Galaxy S10 became the first smartphone in the world with a built-in screen ultrasonic A fingerprint sensor that works perfectly in all conditions (heat, cold, water, even dirt on your hands. not a hindrance)!

Unfortunately, only owners of S10 / S10 Plus will be able to experience the full advantage of the new technology. In the younger model, a fingerprint scanner is installed in the side power button.

Specifications

In addition to all of the above, the models differ from each other in battery capacity, memory size, dimensions. We briefly list the main characteristics with all the differences. The processor in all models is identical. This is a 64-bit Exynos 9820 (8 nm) with 8 cores. Other characteristics:
